Junko Yashiro

Lacquerware Artist

Junko Yashiro is a talented independent wood and urushi artist who lives with her family in Karuizawa, in the east of Nagano Prefecture. She graduated in Urushi Arts, Department of Crafts, from Tokyo University of the Arts.

After her studies, she did not really know what the future would bring. Success came with the consistent implementation of her own ideas. For her modern tableware lines she designs, manufactures and primes all wooden forms herself and then applies the finish using various lacquering techniques. Her work is sold through galleries and individual exhibitions, but she also produces to order, for example for exclusive restaurants.
