Kazuto Yoshikawa

Woodworking Artist

Kazuto Yoshikawa is an artisan in Setagaya, Tokyo, who exhibits his wooden everyday objects and sculptures, and manufactures sophisticated solid-wood furniture for customers. He is successfully represented by Japanese and international galleries with his free works. Originally he studied commercial science at Keiō University in Tokyo, and then worked for more than twelve years for Cassina IXC, the Japanese distributor of the famous Italian designer furniture.

Raised in the rural region of Fukushima, Kazuto Yoshikawa spent a lot of time as a child playing with wood and its origin, trees. In 2011, confronted with the nationwide effects of the devastating Tōhoku earthquake, he steered his path in a different direction, and started to study the basics of woodworking at a vocational school in Gifu Prefecture. Since then he has followed his true calling, the creation of wonderful things made of wood with his own hands, following the premise of a respectful use of natural resources.
